In July 1867, Captain John Derst opened a small bakery on Broughton Street opposite the Marshall House in Savannah, Ga. Today, 140 years later, Derst Baking Company is still baking up fresh Captain John Derst's Old Fashioned Bread as well as other baked goods in its modern bakery on Mills B Lane Blvd. in Savannah.
